Mhow (Madhya Pradesh): The practice of installing free tap connections has been having an adverse impact on the finances of the Cantonment Board.

The board has been losing money for a long time now as it is able to recover just Rs 70 lakh annually as revenue for water supplied to the citizens against an annual expenditure of Rs 5 crore annually. On Thursday, the CEO of the Cantonment Board, Dr. Rajendra Jagtap, issued a release, saying that all citizens using illegal water connections including those using submersible pumps and bore water must give the details of their connections at the Board office and deposit the prescribed fees. The release warned that failing to do so would result in disconnection without notice and a penalty would be recovered from the concerned party.

Father, son sentenced to one year in jail for assault on Cantt Board officials

A father and son duo was sentenced to one year in jail each in a case of obstructing official work and assaulting and threatening to kill an engineer and other employees of the Mhow Cantonment Board. The accused Surendra Mishra and his son Uttam Mishra were sentenced by Judicial Magistrate First Class Ravi Shankar Dohra who also imposed a fine of rupees two thousand on each of them.

On July 26, 2014, at 4.25 pm, in pursuance of a stay order, Amit Vyas along with Vinayak Chongle and Niranjan Panwar of the Cantonment Board went to Bungalow No. 87 where Surendra Mishra and his son Uttam assaulted him and threatened to kill him. The accused were tried under Sections 332, 294 and 506(2). Assistant Prosecution Sandhya Uikey pleaded the case.
