KAMISU CITY, Japan—Tsurumi Chemical Co. Ltd. and its parent company, Kato Sansho Co. Ltd., have agreed to acquire the insoluble sulfur business of Nippon Kanryu Industry Co. Ltd.
Terms of the transaction, expected to close Dec. 1, were not disclosed.
The Nippon Kanryu insoluble sulfur division, which offers the brand products Seimi OT and Seimi Sulfur, is based in Fukuoka, Japan, with a manufacturing plant in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Tsurumi manufactures submersible pumps and wastewater treatment equipment for international sale.
"With the addition of the insoluble sulfur business, Tsurumi Chemical will be able to offer both grades of ground powdered sulfur (soluble sulfur) and insoluble sulfur for tire and rubber companies in Japan and in Asia," Tsurumi stated in a Sept. 22 press release.
According to Tsurumi, Nippon's insoluble sulfur comprises about 60 percent insoluble content and is available at a lower price point than 90-percent insoluble sulfur.
Global demand for insoluble sulfur rubber is expected to increase, and the acquisition should assist Tsurumi in meeting that demand, the company said.
Tsurumi has produced ground sulfur for the tire industry since 1944, and is the largest company in the ground sulfur market in the country, according to Tsurumi.
The company maintains sales offices in Tokyo and manufacturing facilities in Ibaraki and Okayama prefectures. Tsurumi parent company Kato Sansho has sales offices in China, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, the U.S. and Mexico.
